Would you dine out alone?

(what I wore to dinner-tank: Charlotte Russe, skirt: Kohls,
necklace: made by me, spray tan by her)

I did.

The night I arrived in Seal Beach, CA, where I stayed for BlogSugar, I was famished. A yummy blueberry muffin for breakfast and nothing the rest of the day. Travel wearies me and flights upset my stomach so I usually don't eat...

What to do when hungry but no one to dine with? No room service to call?

Dine solo, of course! Have you ever done this? I was a little nervous to be alone, in a new place; there's always that safety issue. But the Italian food/Jazz place right across from the hotel looked promising.

I sat at the bar knowing at least the bartenders would make me feel less: "I look like a deer in headlights because I'm by myself". The food was worth the slight discomfort of being alone--it's worth a post all its own--savory lightly breaded chicken breast, potatoes brushed with lemon butter, and peppered mixed vegetables. A pleasant couple to my right made light conversation with me. The live jazz music was a welcomed distraction.

Would you be embarrassed to dine alone? I wasn't, but it was a little awkward. I've gone to Panera for cookies and a good date with a novel, but this was different.

So tell me, would you dine solo or nosh on a granola bar til continental breakfast?

I would be so uncomfortable. I don't know why. I'd probably just go to sleep early so I at least wouldn't be aware of my hunger! :) Glad you did it. The whole Blog Sugar event would have been totally stepping out of my comfort zone, being alone and knowing no one in real life yet. BUT I'd be willing to try any of that!

You look adorable!!
I have dined alone.
Not my 1st choice :)
I feel very naked without having kids with me, weird...

any way, when I shoot weddings away from home, its usually just me, my other shooters almost always come the day of the wedding, not day before like me.. so im alone til they come. And Back in June I ate at a panera bread alone. I had my mac tho ;-) set up and a cell phone, so I just felt like at techie geek ;-)

I would dine alone, sure. Then again I am the girl who went to rock concerts alone at 16 because my friends liked metal and I liked alternative music. I concur you looked cute and I think you are especially brave to do this in a totally new city.

I would TOTALLY dine alone and revel in the silence and peace...however, that would be especially intimidating in a new city! Good for you!!! You look great by the way...cute, cute, cute outfit!!!!!!

I have dined alone many times. Since B's schedule is not always M-F, there are many weekends I go out of town by myself and I have to dine alone. I dont really mind it and actually enjoy the time by myself (sometimes!). I always try to have a magazine in my car in case I get stuck somewhere waiting, so if I dine alone I usually hit a place I can sit, eat, and read a magazine.

Cute outfit for your dining out experience!

Traveling in Europe taught me dining alone can be great fun. Why miss out on really good places to eat just cause you're by yourself!

Good for you, you look like a million bucks.
Eating out alone can be a strange experience.
I usually enjoy it, the people watching, the ability to concentrate on every morsel, not feeling guilty for having to share and eating all the decadent warm bread smothered with butter, mmmm.
I find that many new yorkers actually dine alone, people are busy and it can be hard to organize dinners out, so you frequently see single diners.
It takes courage, self confidence, and practice.
I'm so glad that you not only did it, but that you enjoyed it.
You're a star.
*Courage is not the absence of fear, but the choice to act in spite of it.

I totally went to Olive Garden by myself. My mom was watching the boys and I had just been to the dentist. It was lovely and peaceful...except for one thing.

I had just had a cavity filled, so my mouth was still a little numb. Not thinking clearly, apparently, I decided to order SOUP and salad. I'm sure the people around me got a good laugh at the girl sitting by herself, with soup spilling out of her mouth. :)

I would go eat by myself! I may need a glass of wine to calm my nerves, but it would be so peaceful and quiet! Love ya!

I have dined alone. I don't feel strange at all if I'm sitting at the bar. "Table for one" is a little weird though.

Oh yes I dine alone sometimes. I even go to movies by myself if no one else is interested in going. Good for you for feeling confident enough to dine alone!!

I love to dine alone!!! It is so peaceful and I love good people watching! I try to lunch on my own when the boys are at mom's day out!

I've gone to the movies alone...I was a little nervous about that, too, but it was such a pleasant experience :) I've never dined alone...but I think I would!

I don't mind it. The quiet is nice sometimes.

I don't like it at all! I am 59 and still haven't adjusted to it! But I think it stems from having a twin sister and always having someone with me when I was young. You should feel great that you did it and now could go again!!

I would and I have! I've had to go on business trips (pre-baby) where I've had no choice but to dine alone. It was weird but, like you, I struck up conversations with people around me. :)

You look great, mama!
