Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate! A Recipe

While at my sister's house for the 4th of July, I went crazy over her huge assortment of cookbooks. I know Pinterest and allrecipes.com and all the other foodie sites have provided a whole new ball game for baking/cooking, but I'll always love looking through cookbooks, new and old. There's something about seeing grease stains and sugar swipes along the thoroughly thumbed-through pages. Or even little notes in pencil.

I stumbled upon this recipe in Erin's 101 Cupcake, Cookie & Brownie Recipes Cookbook by Gooseberry Patch! I was sold at "101."

Here's what you need for these sinfully delicious Triple Chocolatey Brownies:
2 1/4 c. sugar, divided
2 1/2 c. flour, divided
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 t. salt
1 c. oil
4 eggs, beaten
1 T. vanilla, divided
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 T. milk
2 c. chocolate chips, divided
1 T. shortening
The how-to:
Combine 2 cups sugar, 1 1/2 cups flour, cocoa & salt; add oil, eggs, 2 tsp. vanilla. Bead with mixer on medium speed for 3 minutes; pour into a greased 13 x 9 pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes, cool.
Beat butter, brown sugar, and remaining sugar. Add milk and remaining vanilla. Blend in remaining flour until smooth and creamy; fold in chocolate chips.
Spread mixture over brownies, refrigerate, then cut into squares.
Melt remaining chocolate chips and shortening in double bloiler. Stir until smooth.
Drizzle over brownies.
Don't you wish looking at pictures of food was the same as eating it?

  Yeah, me too.

Notes:
These brownies are also good without the chocolate drizzle (see photo 2).
My chocolate drizzle was Hershey's chocolate syrup (lazy me).
The chocolate chippy top layer of these tastes like chocolate chip cookie DOUGH.
You're welcome.
Last note:
I am blogging in my skivvies.
Air conditioner has a 65-year-old mind of its own.
